Bibi, not Bam, has Iran plan
By Michael Goodwin
Tel Aviv, Israel - Here's the nightmare scenario. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel requests an urgent, private meeting with President Obama. At the White House, the two men sit alone and Netanyahu, looking grave, dispenses with pleasantries and gets to the point: "Our intelligence services have determined that Iran is less than three months from making a nuclear bomb. Mr. President, as I have told you, no Israeli leader can let that happen because a nuclear-armed Iran is an existential threat to our country. You previously asked that I not surprise you with any unilateral action. Therefore, I am here to inform you that we have decided to take military action against Iran. etc.. etc.. "Furthermore, my military advisers all agree that we do not have sufficient conventional firepower to accomplish the mission. We are compelled to use tactical nuclear weapons. etc.. and the news story continues...

News Alert: Street Preachers Killed In United States
Saturday, February 6, 2010 (8:55 am) By BosNewsLife News Center
WASHINGTON, USA ( BosNewsLife) A religious liberty group warned Saturday, February 6, that "Anti-Christian hostility is getting increasingly deadly" in the United States after two street preachers were shot and killed by a teenager who apparently opposed their message. "The increasing demonization of Christians in our culture makes some feel its open season on Christians," said Gary Cass of the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission. Tite Sufra, 24 (pictured above) and Stephen Ocean (pictured below), 23, were shot to death late Saturday, January 30, in Boynton Beach in the U.S. State of Florida, where they evangelized, after meeting 18-year-old Jeriah Woody, local police said. etc.. Cass said, "I'll ask this: If two Muslims, or two feminists or two homosexuals were murdered, wouldn't the media be all over it? These were two fine young black Christian men shot by another black man for their Christian faith, yet the media does not seem to care." etc.. and the news story continues..

Al-Qaida calls on US Muslims to attack America
By Associated Press
Sunday, March 7, 2010
CAIRO — Al-Qaida’s American-born spokesman on Sunday called on Muslims serving in the U.S. armed forces to emulate the Army major charged with killing 13 people in Fort Hood. In a 25-minute video posted on militant Web sites, Adam Gadahn described Maj. Nidal Hasan as a pioneer who should serve as a role model for other Muslims, especially those serving Western militaries. "Brother Nidal is the ideal role-model for every repentant Muslim in the armies of the unbelievers and apostate regimes," he said. etc.. "You shouldn’t make the mistake of thinking that military bases are the only high-value targets in America and the West. On the contrary, there are countless other strategic places, institutions and installations which, by striking, the Muslim can do major damage," he said, an assault rifle leaning up against a wall next to him. etc.. Gadahn grew up on a goat farm in Riverside County, California, and converted to Islam at a mosque in nearby Orange County. He has been wanted by the FBI since 2004 and two years later was charged with treason. There is a $1 million reward for information leading to his arrest or conviction. etc.. and the news story continues.. and ends with these statements.. Gadahn said fighters should target mass transportation systems in the West and also wreak havoc "by killing or capturing people in government, industry and the media." He recommended finding ways to shake "consumer confidence and stifle spending" and noted that even unsuccessful attacks, such as the failed attempt to bomb a U.S. airliner on Christmas day, can bring major cities to a halt. "I am calling on every honest and vigilant Muslim in the countries of the Zionist-Crusader alliance in general and America, Britain and Israel in particular to prepare to play his due role in responding to and repelling the aggression of the enemies of Islam," Gadahn said.

PARIS – Is the Middle East about to go officially nuclear?
Dual announcements Tuesday by bitter rivals Israel and Syria that they want to pursue atomic power plants could complicate the diplomatic storm over Iran's nuclear program and fuel a widening web of suspicion across the Middle East. Lie in Report on Petraeus: a Case Study of Anti-Israeli Agenda
by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu
(IsraelNN.com) Incorrect reports in Israel’s largest newspaper and the well known Foreign Policy publication in the United States this week illustrate how the Arab world manipulates the United States to gain concessions and place the world’s ills on Israel’s shoulders. This time their target was also American public opinion. Foreign Policy’s correspondent Mark Perry, a former advisor to Yasser Arafat, added his own spin to statements by U.S.CENTOM Commander General David Petraeus', in an article called: The Petraeus Briefing; Biden's Embarrassment is not the Whole Story, so that the General's statements seemed to blame Israel for casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan. But the general never said that. Perry began by quoting Israel’s decidedly leftist Yediot Acharonot, which wrote that U.S. Vice President Joe Biden “reportedly” told Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu last week, “What you're doing here undermines the security of our troops who are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan." But White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel said that Vice President Biden never told or hinted to Israeli leaders that Jewish development in Judea and Samaria endangers the lives of U.S. soldiers. Perry, who has a long record of anti-Israeli bias and has written a book promoting “engagement “ with terrorists,” wrote that General Petraeus’ briefed Chief of Staff General Mullen and sent a report to the White House in which he claimed that “there was a growing perception among Arab leaders that the U.S. was incapable of standing up to Israel, that CENTCOM's mostly Arab constituency was losing faith in American promises [and] that Israeli intransigence on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was jeopardizing U.S. standing in the region” and putting U.S. soldiers in danger. etc.. and the news story continues...

Regulators shut 7 banks in 5 states; 37 in 2010
By MARCY GORDON, AP Business Writer
Friday, March 19, 2010
(03-19) 17:30 PDT WASHINGTON (AP) --
Regulators on Friday shut down seven banks in five states, bringing to 37 the number of bank failures in the U.S. so far this year. The closings follow the 140 that succumbed in 2009 to mounting loan defaults and the recession. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. took over First Lowndes Bank, in Fort Deposit, Ala.; Appalachian Community Bank in Ellijay, Ga.; Bank of Hiawassee, in Hiawassee, Ga.; and Century Security Bank in Duluth, Ga. The agency also closed down State Bank of Aurora, in Aurora, Minn.; Advanta Bank Corp., based in Draper, Utah; and American National Bank of Parma, Ohio. The FDIC was unable to find a buyer for Advanta Bank, which had $1.6 billion in assets and $1.5 billion in deposits. The regulatory agency approved the payout of the bank's insured deposits and it said checks to depositors for their insured funds will be mailed on Monday. The failure of Advanta Bank is expected to cost the federal deposit insurance fund $635.6 million. etc.. etc.. The pace of bank seizures this year is likely to accelerate in coming months, regulators have said, as losses mount on loans made for commercial property and development. The bank failures — the 140 last year was the highest annual tally since the height of the savings and loan crisis in 1992 — have sapped billions of dollars out of the deposit insurance fund. It fell into the red last year, hitting a $20.9 billion deficit as of Dec. 31. etc.. and the news story continues...

Israel won't back down in dispute with U.S., PM says

Jerusalem (CNN) -- Israel has no intention of backing down in its argument with the United States over Israeli plans to build 1,600 apartments on disputed land in largely Arab East Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday. "Our policy regarding Jerusalem is the same as it was over the past 42 years. We have made it clear to the Americans that for us, building there is just like building in Tel Aviv," Netanyahu said. US embargoing arms sales to Israel
Friday, March 19, 2010
I have a reader who keeps reminding me of how the Bush administration violated agreements with Israel by selling certain types of weapons to Saudi Arabia. As I noted earlier, that was done with then-Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's approval. etc.. Since taking office, Obama has refused to approve any major Israeli requests for U.S. weapons platforms or advanced systems. Officials said this included proposed Israeli procurement of AH-64D Apache attack helicopters, refueling systems, advanced munitions and data on a stealth variant of the F-15E. "All signs indicate that this will continue in 2010," a congressional source familiar with the Israeli military requests said. "This is really an embargo, but nobody talks about it publicly." etc.. and the news story continues...

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair Asks Rick Warren to be His Jesus
By Gustavo Arellano, Saturday, Mar. 20 2010 @ 2:00PM
Of course I'm exaggerating. But last week, the British newspaper The Observer revealed that the country's former prime minister, Tony Blair, counts Purpose-Driven® Rick on his advisory council for the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, which the Observer describes as a charity that "promotes cohesion between the major faiths." Warren, Prop. H8 notwithstanding, does have a talent for speaking before different faith groups, so we'll see if Blair can use him to corral support from other religious groups for the as-yet-unnamed faith-based projects the Foundation wants to do in the United States. etc.. and the news story continues..

Nuclear weapons reduction: US, Russia close to announcing deal
By Howard LaFranchi, Staff writer / March 24, 2010
Washington
American and Russian negotiators reached agreement Wednesday on a new strategic arms reduction treaty that will continue the process of reducing the world’s two largest arsenals of nuclear weapons – and that will move the powers further away from their 20th-century status as cold-war enemies. etc.. etc.. etc.. The new START may be even more crucial to the May NPT review conference, Mr. Pifer says, because it will strengthen the hand of US officials seeking to dissuade nuclear wannabes from pursuing nuclear weapons. “It just puts more impediments on the road to developing nuclear weapons,” he says. Finally, Pifer says, the accord is a “validation” for the Russians that they are still a superpower, at least in the nuclear realm. And that could leave the Russians more open to cooperation with the US – or that’s what the administration hopes, he says. etc.. and the news story continues...

Russian bombers 'intercepted in British airspace'
By Barry Neild, CNN
March 25, 2010 12:11 p.m. EDT
London, England (CNN) -- Rare photos of Russian strategic bomber jets purportedly intercepted in British airspace show Moscow's war machine is becoming increasingly bold, analysts said Thursday as Russia denied any territorial violations. Britain's Ministry of Defence released images it said were taken earlier this month of two Russian Tu-160 bombers -- known as Blackjacks by NATO forces -- as they entered UK airspace near the Outer Hebrides islands off Scotland's northwest coast. It said the March 10 incident, which resulted in crystal clear images of the planes against clear blue skies and a dramatic sunset, was one of many intercepts carried out by British Royal Air Force crews in just over 12 months. "This is not an unusual incident, and many people may be surprised to know that our crews have successfully scrambled to intercept Russian aircraft on more than 20 occasions since the start of 2009," Wing Cdr. Mark Gorringe, of the RAF's 111 Squadron, said in a statement. etc.. etc.. Experts say regardless of the exact flight paths, the increased sorties by Russian aircrafts in international airspace show Moscow is flexing its muscles as it re-emerges as a global military player. etc.. and the news story continues....

Gaffney: Obama Nuclear Plan Takes 'Dangerous' Risks With U.S. Security
By: Jim Meyers
Leading national security expert Frank Gaffney has a few choice words for President Barack Obama’s policies on the production and use of nuclear weapons — “reckless,” “dangerous,” “irresponsible,” “ill-advised,” “very risky” and “catastrophic.” Gaffney, founder and president of the Center for Security Policy, also tells Newsmax that Obama is taking “considerable risks” with Americans’ security, and his policies could ultimately lead to the “disarmament” of the U.S. And he says the policies raise questions about the president’s judgment “and his faithful execution of his constitutional responsibilities for the common defense.” Gaffney was nominated by President Ronald Reagan in April 1987 to become assistant secretary of defense for International Security Policy, the senior position in the Defense Department with responsibility for policies involving nuclear forces, arms control and U.S.-European defense relations. London, England (CNN) -- European countries shut their airspace one after the other Thursday as a cloud of volcanic ash wafted over from Iceland and posed a danger to flights. Airspace over the United Kingdom was due to be closed for six hours from midday but air authorities later extended the closure until at least 7 a.m. BST (2 a.m. EST) Friday. Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands also announced the closure of their airspace, authorities in each country said. Norway also closed its ocean territory and canceled helicopter flights to off-shore oil installations, etc.. etc.. The ash cloud came from an eruption of a volcano beneath Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull glacier early Wednesday. The eruption -- the latest in a series that began on March 20 -- blew a hole in the mass of ice and created a cloud of smoke and ash that went high into the air. etc.. etc.. Eric Moody was the pilot aboard a British Airways flight that managed to fly through volcanic ash thrown up by Mount Galunggung in Indonesia in 1982. All four of the engines stopped because of the ash, and the plane glided through the air for about 15 minutes, he told CNN on Thursday. "The engines just ran down," Moody said. Eventually at 13,000 feet, the engines started working again and the plane was able to land. That, said Moody, is why this Icelandic ash could be so dangerous. etc.. and the news story continues...

Volcano casts cloud over European economy
By Kevin Voigt, CNN

By the end of the day on Sunday, a total of 63,000 flights had been canceled in the four days since ash from a volcano under the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in Iceland closed the airspace of a large swath of Europe, according to air traffic authority Eurocontrol. Thousands of tourists were cleared from the streets for 10 hours after a T-shirt vendor alerted police to the suspicious vehicle, which contained three propane tanks, fireworks, two filled 5-gallon gasoline containers, and two clocks with batteries, electrical wire and other components, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said. US toll reaches 1,000 deaths in Afghanistan war

KABUL, Afghanistan – The American military death toll in Afghanistan reached 1,000 at a time when President Barack Obama's strategy to turn back the Taliban is facing its greatest test - an ambitious campaign to win over a disgruntled population in the insurgents' southern heartland. More casualties are expected when the campaign kicks into high gear this summer. The results may determine the outcome of a nearly nine-year conflict that became "Obama's war" after he decided to shift the fight against Islamist militancy from Iraq to Afghanistan and Pakistan, where Afghan insurgents find sanctuary.
